Hi, I’m Erica. Let’s get to know each other.

I began training as a dancer at the age of three and practiced ballet, tap and jazz into adulthood. While studying Marketing at the University of North Texas in the United States, I continued dancing but never dreamt my love of dance would lead to a career. Instead, I launched a career as a marketer. However, a lifelong urge for cultural exploration and a deep desire for more meaningful work led me to resign from my corporate job and spend a year abroad in Madrid, Spain teaching English. After returning home to the US, I worked as an advocate for survivors of domestic abuse at a women’s shelter.

I felt a personal connection to these women’s experiences, and it helped me perceive my own trauma as purposeful and meaningful if I could help others. I decided to further my education in London and graduated with an MSc Psychology from Middlesex University. During my studies, I became interested in innovative approaches to mental health treatment. In 2021, I returned to study once again at Roehampton University earning an MA in Dance Movement Psychotherapy in 2023.

The principles of dance movement psychotherapy use a mind-body-spirit approach to treat trauma. Exciting new research on trauma continues to dive deeper into the connection between body and mind. Experts argue for a cultural shift away from the brain-disease model of modern psychology and psychiatry and assert that trauma must be healed not only emotionally and psychologically, but also bodily. Psychologists are now uncovering wisdom that yogis, qigong masters and other ancient practitioners have known for thousands of years.
